Well lets see, you could get hurt or depending on the jewelry, die. Or you could injure your oponent or worse. He*l someone could use it as a weapon. It is a possible limiter to the skill of the players. Besides whoever is more skilled will win, why do you even want to wear it.

watches can get caught in other places and pull the warers hand into a position that is most likely to do some damage

So it won't hinder your performance, or if you go down you don't risk ripping an ear lobe or similar. Why would you want to wear jewelry to play, anyway? If it's worth anything you risk losing/damaging it. It's usually for safety reasons, though.
