Both are meaningless trophies and meaningless cups. It just adds extra games to season. No team will sacrifice league position or CL/EL match for league cup game. It should be called ''The Bench Cup'', because the team with the best bench players wins at the end of the season.





If we talk about history and importance of these cups in their countries then we can say they were both important somewhere in history while in modern football it's just a meaningless cup. In Spain the CdR had very strong political history while FA Cup has ''only'' football related history. So CdR definitely has more history than FA Cup.





Although these small trophies are very important to small teams....

FA Cup has more prestige. The Copa Del Rey is almost the equivalent of the Carling Cup.

The FA Cup has more history than Copa del Rey. If I remember correctly, Copa del Rey was found in the early 20th century while England's FA cup was found much earlier than that. However, in terms of status, the FA Cup is held in less esteem than the Copa to the respective teams competing for the respective cups. In Spain, losing the Copa is a catastrophe even though it is held in much less esteem compared to La Liga. However, as a spaniard and in my perceptions, the FA cup is not held to much esteem by the english but it is definitely still counted as an honor and a cup and when all else is lost, it sure is a big win.

Well here where I'm from many prefer the FA cup over the Copa Del Rey but I prefer Copa Del Rey for obvious reasons.

History? Well just because something is older doesn't mean it had more history. Copa was created to honour King Alfonso XIII and these first participants have never been relegated. Also because of this association there's a rivalry with Catalans and Spain, due to involvement of the King of Spain and Franco. Pique allegedly said 'we're going to win your Kings Cup' in the tunnel in a match against RM last season. I don't think the FA Cup had any meaning or significance



Which one has more status? The fact England has two domestic trophies takes a lot away from both. One domestic trophy makes it much more special in my opinion



I also like the fact the Copa final is played after the season has ended, not during which means the strongest XI can line up, don't have to take league games into consideration

They only reason one(^^^^) will believe that the CDR is more Glorious is because when Real Madrid beat Barcelona in it It gave them a trophy but what they don't realize is that nobody really cared about the CDR,what people were watching/cared about was Real finally beating Barcelona for a trophy



That's the Only reason CDR was "Big" that year
